The Community Awareness Code aims
to make sure that sites communicate with their
local communities. This gives information to
help to answer questions and respond to concerns
about safety, health and the environment.
Dow Corning have set up several
initiatives to help improve an understanding
of their work and respond to community concerns.
Neighbourhood evenings give
visitors an opportunity to tour the site, ask
questions and see how processes are designed,
operated and maintained.
A feephone helpline, in conjunction
with neighbouring companies, allows local people
to raise any complaints.
The Community Advisory Panel
gives an opportunity for representatives from
the local community to meet with Dow Corning
personnel.
There are strong school links.
These have resulted in the production and distribution
of educational resources, involvement in science
week activities, career guidance and mock interviews.
Sponsorship and donations
have been made to assist in projects including
providing books for a local primary school
and supporting the work of the National Museum
of Wales.
