Lilly works with the local community

Lilly Speke Operations is very positive about working with the local community and understands the need to be a welcome neighbour. They achieve this by being approachable, listening to community concerns and responding in a helpful and considerate manner.

Many of the workforce serve on local regeneration committees, act as school governors and involve themselves in a whole host of community activities. In particular, Lilly works closely with two local secondary schools and five primary schools. Small dedicated teams meet regularly with the schools to see how the company can give assistance. This has ranged from the conversion of a disused cloakroom into a new library to providing funds which helped a local comprehensive school become a Centre of Excellence in Performing Arts.

Donations from the community budget have helped a number of local groups, nurseries and sports associations with funding. A payroll giving scheme also generates money for local charities. Employees make a monthly donation from their salary which the company matches pound for pound. Since its introduction in the late 1980s, employees and Lilly have donated over half a million pounds. In 2001, over £50,000 was distributed to more than 40 Merseyside charities.
