Skin creams can be used for cosmetic
purposes or to carry medically useful drugs.
They contain a range of oils which often come
from non-sustainable sources. For example,
the squalene used in many creams has traditionally
been obtained from animal sources such as sharks.
Uniqema have produced an oil, Pripure
3759, which is a colourless, odourless transparent
liquid ideal for a wide range of skin care
applications. It is derived from olive oil
which means that the squalene it contains can
now be obtained from a readily renewable raw
material.
Vegetable squalane consists of
three saturated terpene units. These are the
natural building blocks of plant's essential
oils and in a moisturising cream the Pripure
helps to replace natural oils that may be lost
from dry skin.
